Mrs. Babette Jelinsky Passes Away In San Francisco

It was with deep regret that the St. Helena friends of the Jelinsky family learned, Monday morning, that Mrs. Babette Jelinsky had passed away Sunday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Don Cameron, 100 Valdez avenue, in San Francisco. Death came peacefully after an illness of several months.

Mrs. Jelinsky was stricken ill last December while visiting her children in San Francisco, but recovered sufficiently so as to be able to return to her home in St. Helena. After a short time, however, she again went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cameron, where three weeks ago, she was again stricken.

Deceased was born in Nurnburg [sic], Germany, December 5, 1878, and came to America in 1901. In New York City, on July 26th of that year, she became the bride of Henry Jelinsky, and they came directly to St. Helena to make their home, and Mrs. Jelinsky resided here ever since. Mr. Jelinsky passed away in 1939.

Mrs. Jelinsky was a charter member and past matron of St. Helena Chapter No. 274, Order of Eastern Star, and took an active interest in the order. She had a kindly nature and endeared herself to a wide circle of friends.
Deceased is survived by five children, Miss Elsa May, Herman, Oscar and Conrad Jelinsky, and Mrs. Betty Cameron; also two grandchildren, Carol Jelinsky and Elsa Sue Cameron.

Funeral services were held in San Francisco Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock under the direction of the McAvoy-O'Hara Co., and were largely attended. Rev. Walter Carl Subke, who was pastor of the St. Helena presbyterian church in 1926-27, officiated, and his sermon was a fitting tribute to one dearly loved by all. The floral tributes were very profuse and beautiful. Following the services the remains were taken to Woodlawn for cremation and will later be brought to St. Helena for final resting. Pallbearers were Joseph Parodi, of St. Helena, O'Dell Phelps, Rudolph Bubner, Nathan Arnold, John C. Willard and William Creedon.

St. Helena people attending the funeral, many of them members of the Eastern Star, were Mrs. M. Ghirrghelli, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Parodi, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Metzner, Mrs. W.H. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Mitchell, Mrs. B. Pagendarm Sr., and Mrs. B. Pagendarm, Jr., Mrs. Adele Pedrini, Carmel Pedrini, Mrs. Arnold Metzneh, Mrs. E.A. Erickson, Mrs. A. Maker, Worthy Matron of St. Helena Chapter of Eastern Star, Miss Minnie Caughey and Mrs. F.L. Beck, the two latter charter members.
