He had lived in Kent as a youth, but recently lived in the city for ju st four years before his death, moving from Clallam Bay. The Johnso n family moved to Kent in 1936 from North Dakota. He was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Van Hook, N.D. He worked as a heavy equi pment operator at the Howard S. Wright Construction Co. for 25 years , retiring in 1985. He attended Kent Schools and served in the U.S. Army during World Wa r II. He was a member of International Order of Operating Engineers N o. 302. He is survived by his wife, Betty Johnson, of the family home; four so ns, Steven Johnson, and Keneth Johnson, both of Everett, James Johnso n and Walter Johnson, both of San Diego, Calif.; his mother Olive John son of Auburn; two stepsons, Robert Barber of Auburn, Edward Barber o f Fayetteville, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Margaret Baker of Selah, Wash. ; four brothers, Howard Johnson and Raymond Johnson, both of Kent, Vir gil Johnson of Renton, Richard Johnson of Coquille, Ore.; four sister s Delores Card of Mattawa, Wash., Muriel Hunter of Fort Worth, Texas , Margaret Foster of Kent, and Marilyn Ballard of Renton; 19 grandchil dren; and four great-grandchildren. In keeping with Mr. Johnson's wishes, no services will be held. Cremation is under the direction of Edline-Yahn Funeral Chapel. Memorial s maybe made to the American Cancer Society. 2.
