John came the US at the age of 19, landing in New York via Ellis Islan d in 1904. He worked his way across the US as a carpenter. John went t o Alaska around 1909 looking for work or GOLD. He did care for the cli mate and returned to Seattle area to settle.
The CARPATHIA - Built by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Limited, New castle, England, 1903. 13,603 gross tons; 558 (bp) feet long; 64 fee t wide. Steam quadruple expansion engines, twin screw. Service speed 1 4 knots. 1,704 passengers (204 first class, 1,500 third class).One fun nel and four masts.
Built for Cunard Line, British flag, in 1903 and named Carpathia. Live rpool-New York and Trieste-New York service. Rescued 705 survivors o n April 15, 1912 from the sunken TITANIC. Torpedoed and sunk by a Germ an submarine off the English coast in 1918.
