Thanks, Mom. Your showed humility and strength, patience and love. You taught us to live a God-fearing life and guided us to worship and love Him through example. You were there to play with us, teach us, laugh and be sad with us while we were growing up, beginning our married lives and raising our children, asking nothing in return. And you never changed through all the years. Your generosity for loving, caring and sharing with others were always apart of you. There are no greater gifts a mother can give her children.
-----------------------------------------------

Vera Elaine Tveten, 88, of Antigo, died Tuesday at Langlade Hospital under the care of her family and LeRoyer Hospice. Vera was born April 3, 1920, to the late Roy and Eunice (Bessey) Remington. On June 13, 1942, she married Douglas Tveten at the Congregational church in Antigo. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2008.

Mrs. Tveten graduated from Antigo High School in 1939. She then went on to Langlade County Teachers College and began her teaching career. A lifelong learner and educator she graduated in 1960 from UW-Stevens Point with her bachelor degree in elementary education. Vera taught in schools in Antigo, Elcho, White Lake, Land O'Lakes, Monico and Mattoon. A dedicated teacher in the rural schools of Langlade County, she taught at Rosedale, Bluebell, Sunnyslope, Lily and Rocky Glen schools. She continued to substitute teach in the Antigo Unified School District following retirement. Mrs. Tveten brought loving warmth and humor and imagination to her classroom. In her retirement, she spoke so often of the joys spent in reading and singing with her classes. She valued the unique characteristics of every child for she herself was so very special in her heart and soul. Her warmth poured forth through her music because Mrs. Tveten was blessed with a heart that sang her love of music.

Vera was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, where she was a member of Candlelight Circle, the choir, served as a deaconess, played piano for the Sunday school and taught Sunday school. She was a lifelong member of VFW Auxiliary, Langlade County Retired Teachers' Association, Birthright and Sweet Adelines. Vera enjoyed traveling. She chaperoned trips to Europe and traveled to Peru with her church to help build a church there.

Survivors include three daughters: Cathy (Russ) Volz of New London, Linda (James) Bruss of Pickerel, and Susan (Ron) Moseman of Antigo; two sons: Tim (Ruth) Tveten of Antigo, and Tom Tveten of Antigo; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother Don (Dorothy) Remington of Iola.

Vera was preceded in death by a son, Neale; a brother, Jack Remington; her beloved sister, Jeanne Freiburger; a grandson, Jason Liederbach; and a great-granddaughter, Shelby Casper.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Faith United Church of Christ. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at church. Rev. Audrey Alexander will officiate.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials are established in Mrs. Tveten's name for the United Church of Christ Choir and LeRoyer hospice.
