FRED MILES DIES IN DENVER; RITES SATURDAY MORNING
Fred Miles, retired rancher and farmer and resident of this community for more than 57 years, passed away at about 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20 [19], at Presbyterian Hospital in Denver following an extended illness. He was 80 years of age.
Funeral services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 22, at the Holyoke Christian church, with the minister, James Dobyns, officiating. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. Arrangements were in charge of the Radford Funeral Home of Haxtun.
A son of Rev. John A. and Louisa Muir Miles, Fred Miles was born August 24, 1886, at Winnetoon, Nebraska, where he grew to manhood. On October 22, 1907, he was united in marriage to Nellie Burt at Center, Nebraska.
In the spring of 1909 Mr. and Mrs. Miles moved to Colorado and established residence on a homestead southeast of Holyoke. In 1917 they moved to the ranch southeast of town which was their home for many years, and which has been operated by their younger son, Loyal B. (Bud) Miles, for a number of years. Mr. and Mrs. Miles retired in 1947 and moved to their home in Holyoke.
Mr. Miles was reared in the Quaker faith.
Surviving Mr. Miles are his widow, Nellie; two sons, Melvern, Haxtun, and Loyal B., Holyoke; one daughter, Mae, Mrs. W. Lyle Forbes, Denver; two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Pegler, Canoga Park, California, and Mrs. Anna Polish, Watford, North Dakota; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.
Preceding Mr. Miles in death were his parents, six brothers, one sister and one daughter, Reta, who passed away in 1962.
