"The Home Guard all lined up at the depot at 9:25 to meet the body of a soldier. Mr. Miles died at camp somewhere in Mass. But the body did not come. Got a dispatch stating there was no corpse on train. The body of young Miles came on the 4:27 with a young soldier as assistant. They had the box where the coffin was in with a large flag fastened at each end. After the corpse was laid away, the young soldier gave the flag to the boy's mother."
