Ernest LeRoy Falen, 66, of Sunny Slope, died Friday, November 4, 1994, at the Caldwell hospital of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 1994, at the First Presbyterian Church in Homedale. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
Mr. Falen was born June 10, 1928, at home on the family ranch at Arock, Oregon, to Ernest and Irene Stitzel Falen. He moved with his family to the Cougar Mountain Lodge area, where his father worked on a highway project for a short time. They came to the Caldwell area and settled in the Sunny Slope community in 1931. Mr. Falen attended Sunny Slope Elementary School all eight years and then attended Marsing High School, graduating in 1946. He drove produce truck for his father for five years and then was a field supervisor for Falen Fruit Ranch for twenty-two years and later was the orchard manager for the J.R. Simplot Company for seventeen years.
He met Geraldine Marshall in August of 1948 and they were married in May of 1949. He loved to fish and travel with Geraldine in their motor home. They enjoyed many trips throughout the United States and Mexico and made many lasting and cherished friendships on these trips. He also had a great love of music and never traveled without a vast selection of his favorite music. Mr. Falen was very active in sponsoring and coaching his sons' Little League baseball teams. Mr. Falen was active in community affairs. He had served as a member of the board and president of the West Canyon Elementary schools P.T.O. He was a member and past president of the Vallivue School athletic booster club, a member and chairman of Canyon District School Board, a member and chairman of the fruit growers advisory committee and the Canyon County Extension service. He was a member and past president of the Idaho Horticulture Society, a member of the Idaho Oregon Shippers Assoc., a member of United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Assoc., served two terms on the Idaho Prune Marketing Order, served four terms on the Idaho Prune Commission, served two terms on the Idaho Agriculture Labor Committee, served on the Marsing Housing Authority board of directors and served on the board of Marsing agriculture labor committee, the American Legion Baseball Board and the Board of Directors of Syringa House in Nampa.
Mr. Falen is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Sunny Slope; his parents, Ernest and Irene Falen of Sunny Slope; his children, Gary and his wife, Pam of Caldwell, Larry and his wife, Jeannie of Phoenix, Arizona, Joe and his wife, Marge of Hermiston, Oregon, Christine and her husband, Neal Spencer of Middleton and Carol Moore of Boise; a sister, Dorothy Vogt of Nampa; 13 grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bea Case; a son-in-law, Frank Moore; and two brothers-in-law, Jay Vogt and Claris Case.
Mr. Falen's family will receive friends at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
