Another exciting part of this obituary is to learn more about Knudt, our ancestor who immigrated first from Norway to America. Knudt was born on the Haavrud farm on 25 March 1823. This farm is also spelled Havrud, Håvrud and Hovrud; it is near Fagernes, Norway. This farm will be the first one we visit. Knudt would travel with his sister, Marit Julsdatter in July 1848, arriving in New York aboard the Brig "Statsraad Vogt." They lead the way for the rest of their family that included their parents, Jul Knudsen and Marit Julsdatter and their younger siblings, who also arrived in New York on June 1849 aboard the Barque "17 May." Once reunited, the Julson family would set up housekeeping and work a farm in Perry Township, Dane County, Wisconsin. In 1861, Knute Julson, as I have found his name most often spelled, would marry Julia/Guro Olsen, another who immigrated from Norway to Wisconsin. Eventually, Knute would move his family to South Dakota as the obituary tells us.
