Ethel was born in Polson, Mont. on Jan. 16, 1918 to Peter and Thora (Thorkveen) Mahlum. She married Paul Ries on Dec. 31, 1948 in Minneapolis. He preceded her in death. Ethel had owned Maggies, a women's clothing store, in Longview, Wash. She is survived by daughters: Paulette (Mike) Rislund of Shakopee, Pam Sebastian of Eden Prairie; son-in-law, Stan Brinkhaus of Shakopee; sister, Maggie Davis of California; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Michele) Brinkhaus, Jill Brinkhaus, Jackie (Steve) Shirvinski, Bryan (Julie) Rislund, Chad Rislund, Anthony Sebastian and Audrey Sebastian; three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Paul, she was preceded in death by daughter, Patricia Brinkhaus, and brothers and sisters. Visitation was Monday, March 2, from 5-7 p.m. at the McNearney Funeral Home, Shakopee. Funeral service was Tuesday, March 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Church, Eden Prairie, with the Rev. Robert Wassenaar officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff and Jill Brinkhaus, Jackie Shirvinski, Bryan and Chad Rislund, Anthony and Audrey Sebastian. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
