She grew up and lived in rural Ashby. After graduating from Ashby High School in 1956, she attended Concordia College in Moorhead, majoring in music. She married John (Jack) Nelson Dec. 28, 1957, at Pelican Lake Lutheran Church in Ashby. They resided in San Diego, Calif. until 1960. She worked as a Secretary while Mr. Nelson served as a Yeoman in the United States Navy. Returning to Ashby they farmed North of town. In 1967 they moved to Ashby. She worked as a piano instructor out of her home for 30 years, also working at Nelsons Standard & Caf in Ashby with her mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. She was a member of the Music Teachers National Association, Minnesota Music Teachers Association and Peace Lutheran Church. She was an avid music lover. The piano and the music she played for herself and others were one of her greatest joys. She also enjoyed her time spent with family and friends. Her grandchildren were the love and music in her life. She is survived by her son, Troy (Margaret) Nelson of Nesconset, N.Y.; daughter, Jacqueline Huseth of Ashby; father, Willard Paulson of Ashby; four grandchildren, Curtis Huseth, Trent, Jacqueline and Brianna Nelson; brothers, Carlton (Phyllis) Paulson of Moorhead and Larry (Karen) Paulson of Ashby; sister-in-law, Marlene (Douglas) Nelson of Ashby; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; mother, Esther; two sisters, Avis Paulson and Arlys Heth and husband Otto; mother and father-in-law, LeMer and Ethel Nelson; brother-in-law, Douglas Nelson; and nephew, Steven Winslow.
