Special update a/o July 15, 2012:
I'm making direct parent relationship links for David Knauss per a SAC request from "Stone Reader." These links are made with the following cautions....
* A search on Ancestry.com for the parents of David Knauss turned up a very disturbing item. A joint headstone photo for a "Samuel H Knauss" and "his wife Anna" was posted to entries for them initially on one family tree in 2009. However, in looking at the headstone photo it clearly is NOT relevant to David's parents. The age inscriptions do not match what should be relevant for David's parents. Unfortunately, there are now upwards of about 14 different family trees that have attached that monument view photo to their entries for Samuel Knauss and Susannah Varner Knauss. BEWARE - that monument view is of another person named Samuel Harris and it was attached to that first family tree in error. Not sure why nobody caught that error a long time ago. I've put a comment in on one tree that the headstone shown is wrong, but the damage has been done to the accuracy of those trees.
I'm linking to the two memorials that "Stone Reader" suggested in the belief that they are accurate based on all other sources. That his parents were buried in separate cemeteries is consistent with the narratives that indicate Susannah died and was buried, then Samuel moved away to be near a brother in Harrison county.
* It appears from several sources that "William" was David's middle name, even though it doesn't appear on his headstone or obituary. Will use "William" based on recommendation from "Stone Reader" that it appears to be legitimate. -------- -------- Jefferson County Republican Mar. 13, 1900 Page 4 col. 6
