Claudia Lee Hackensmith

Claudia "Corky" Hackensmith, age 62, of Wrenshall, passed away Friday, January 7, 2011 in the ICU at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth after a courageous battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (C.O.P.D.) surrounded by her family.

She was born in St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth on July 11, 1948 and graduated from Wrenshall High School in 1966 and from Beauty School in Duluth the following year. She then moved to California where her grandmother lived and worked there for a few years as a beautician. Claudia moved back to Minnesota in 1975 with her small son and then worked at several places in the area. Her working days ended at Conwed Cop. (USG) in Cloquet when she was forced to retire because of her illness.

Claudia is survived by her son Raymond (Katie) Curry II; granddaughters, Madelynn, Eva, and Lily of Maplewood, MN; granddaughter Riley McGrath of Superior, WI and grandson Caden Huseby of Hudson, WI; her parents, Dale and Dolores Dennie of Wrenshall; one brother, Mitchell (Colleen) Dennie and nephews Philip and Drew of Duluth and Christopher of Wrenshall; one sister Susanne Brigan (Charlie Petersen) of Cloquet and special niece Sarah (Scott) Clark of Duluth. She is also survived by very dear friends Bruce and Mary Grover, the guys next door, Dave Bouldin and Rob Wright and friends Ron Moen and Ted Erickson. Claudia dearly loved to keep in touch with all her grandkids. Besides her family, she will be sadly missed by all those to whom she so willingly gave her shoulder to lean on, or a helping hand when it was needed. She loved to call you on the phone or send you a card or note for whatever reason. Her hobbies were her TV, reading, or playing at "The Bear".

A gathering of family and friends will begin 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, followed with a luncheon and time of fellowship. Inurnment will be at Silverbrook Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The family has selected Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet to assist them with arrangements.
