Reunion 2018
In 1931 William Christian (Jorgensen) Johnson moved out west from Williston, North Dakota to Kent Washington. He purchased a 5 acre plot for $1.00 and built several houses for his children and their families. Over the years 5 of his children and many grandchildren moved to Kent and raised their families. Currently there are over 100 descendants of William Johnson still living in the Seattle area.
One of our Danish cousins, Poul Henriksen and his wife Herdis from Udby, Denmark are visiting their Seattle area cousins from July 26th to August 3rd. Udby, Denmark is the hometown of William Johnson as well as several of his siblings that eventually settled in the United States ... Washington, Minnesota, South Dakota and California. We have organized this "meet and greet" event especially for them.
Many of we Seattle area cousins have met and even grown up together. However, there are some Johnson / Jorgensen cousins that have yet to meet other cousins. This is our opportunity to meet new cousins and reconnect with others as well as meet cousin Poul.
We will be gathering on Sunday, July 29th from 1:00 to 5:00 at the home of Jeff and Tracy Steffens at 16415 194th Ave.SE, Renton WA, 98058. This is a potluck style event. Parking is limited ...please, carpool if possible. Also, bring lawn chairs if you can. There is a big yard ... games will be available for the young and young at heart.
The above photo was taken at Rice Lake outside of Douglas, North Dakota in 1931 before William and Marie Johnson began their trek with a caravan of family to Kent, Washington. Pictured are all 8 of their children and their children. We have several more pictures of the family from that day to share. If you have pictures or documents that you wish to share, please bring them along as we will have a scanner and printer available if needed.
Please, check back with this event listing for updates to this information.
JEFF AND TRACY STEFFENS WILL BE COOKING UP THEIR FAMOUS PULLED PORK ... otherwise this is a typical potluck affair.
Thanks ... Dave Johnson and Darlene (Johnson) Steffens, Event Organizers

William Christian JOHNSON
Notes:
1. Note on an old paper says Jorgensen. Was this perhaps his original last name? William's death certificate confirms this was his original last name.
2. As told to me by Marilyn Brown Johnson, William and his wife packed up the whole family and moved to Washington. William's occupation was as a "Jack of all trades", but mainly a school janitor, farm hand, carpenter and a repairer of farm eauioment. The 1930 census finds him and Maria in Doualas. North Dakota, he is a hardware retail merchant at this time. Within a few months he and many of his children have packed up their belongings/families and moved to Washington State. The 1900 Census tells that William was a well driller. He had been in the United States for 14 years, immigrating in 1886. Naturalization was stated as being NA(turalized)...
3. His burial place hasn't been found. It was thought that he might be buried in the Peter Saar Pioneer Cemetery. An August 2013 look through the book "A History of Saar Pioneer Cemetery and Its Inhabitants" by So. King County Gen. Soc, copy found at the Renton Library didn't find him or Marie listed. Burial place is still unknown.
4. It is important to find out the importance to William of the name Albert. His first daughter's middle name is Albertine and he had two sons he named Albert. Unfortunately neither of these boys lived to adulthood and died as small children, the middle name of daughter Annamarie Albertine came from AMT "RUSTIC
FAMILY TREE".
5. NEWSPAPER ARTICLE - Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson
An undated news paper article but likely from the Douglas Herald; Douglas, Ward County, North Dakota, USA; date printed is unknown but prior to October, 1922 when newspaper discontinued.
