THE MAHLUMS NOTE 50TH ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Mahlum, long time residents of the Flathead Valley , were honored at a golden wedding anniversary reception July 22 at th e home of their son, Edwin Mahlum.
To carry out the anniversary theme the reception table was decorated i n white and gold. The three-tiered anniversary cake was topped with t he golden numeral of 50. A bouquet of red and white striped carnation s ornamented the table where the guests were registered by their grand daughter, Patricia Ries.
Pouring were their granddaughter, Mrs. David Christensen, Mrs. Anton M ahlum and Mrs. Clarence Bigley and serving cake were their daughters , Mrs. Elmer (Elma) Lloyd, Mrs. Maurice (Sally) Ramsey and Mrs. Larr y (Margy) Davis and serving punch were their granddaughters Helen an d Janet Mahlum. Presiding at the gift table were their daughters, Mrs . Jack (Ragna) McLean and Mrs. Paul (Ethel) Ries.
Their children who were present for the anniversary occasion were Mrs . Lloyd of Missoula, Mrs. Ramsey of Shelby, Mrs. McLean of Havre, Mrs . Ries of Shakopee, Minn., Mrs. Davis of Chehalis, Wash., and Anton, W alter and Edwin Mahlum, all of Kalispell. The Mahlums have 13 childre n, 29 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Among the out-of-state guests at the reception were their daughter an d family, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ostrom and children of Alberta, Mrs. Marga ret Opp Campbell and children of Santa Rosa, Calif., Mrs. Christense n of Glendorra, Calif., and Mrs. Evelyn Thorn of Belleray Euet, Englan d.
Other out-of-town guests included John Stasviken of Libby, and Mrs. Os car Mahlum, Dale Mahlum and Mrs. Art Rapp of Missoula.

PETE MAHLUM, 88, FALLS THROUGH ICE
Pete Mahlum, 88, walked away from an icy bath in Foy's Lake Tuesday ev ening, apparently not bothered by the experience.
Mahlum was fishing on the northwest side of the lake when the ice brok e under him. He swam back to the solid ice and pulled himself out o f the water.
Gordon Price, who lives nearby, put a boat in the water and broke a ch annel through the ice to Mahlum. Sheriff's officers were on hand to h elp pull the boat to shore and Mahlum walked away from the boat, col d but otherwise unhurt.

There is a Peter Amund Mahlum, Hawkinson, Richland county, ND, wife
Thora, b. Mar. 5, 1873, listed in the WWI registrations. His signature
is "Petter Amund Mahlum". Dated Sept. 12, 1918

There are also second papers for naturalization listed in Richland
county, ND for Petter A. Mahlum

township, Richland county, ND. Ancestry has him misindexed under Peter

immigration year. I believe these are the deaths of Peter's parents,
Amund Pedersen Mahlum and Sigrid, although the birth dates should be
Nov. 14, 1848 for Amund, and July 28, 1850 for Sigrid.
