Johnson (1923-2014) From: Darlene Steffens (dsteff4246@hotmail.com) Sent:Mon 3/10/14 11:06 PM I was saddened today to hear that Uncle Lloyd (Lloyd to some, Great Un cle Lloyd to others, and keep adding the "greats" as appropriate for y ou) passed away during the night. It is still unclear to me exactly w hen he died, but since Lynn called me today, I am thinking he died ver y early Monday morning, March 10, 2014. Lloyd turned ninety years "yo ung" on his birthday, this past December. Lynn said that he had bee n in the hospital the past two weeks with his heart getting weaker eac h passing day. Three years ago, he had told me that his heart was onl y working 25% of where it should be working. He was strong spirited , dealt with it and kept on enjoying life. I want to convey my deepest sympathy to Aunt Virginia and her family - - our cousins. I am not sure what the family is doing about service s or a celebration of life, that is still pending. I've asked them t o let me know once the decision is made. If you are interested in att ending, send me a reply and I'll keep you posted. Aunt Virginia is doing OK and her family is either with her or nearb y based on her needs. I am sending her a "virtual" hug. Lloyd was a wonderful person who lived life to its fullest. He was fa ithful as long as he could to attend our family picnics; at first driv ing the trip himself and eventually riding along with others. This i s where so many of you younger folks will remember him from. I know he 'll be missed. Today on Facebook Lloyd's grandson, Derren shared some of his thought s about his grandfather and I thought to share these with you. "How do you sum up a man’s life in a few words… Raised during the depression, too poor to afford a seat for his bike b ut still uses it to deliver papers to help support his family Served in North Africa during the height of WWII; learned to hate war. Survived a work place accident, Doctors told him he would never walk a gain. The Doctors were wrong. Raised seven kids with a firm hand and a lot o...f love. Loved children and was surrounded by them his whole life. Loved to fish and kept doing it until his body just wouldn’t let him d o it anymore. Saved his money and invested well enough to take care of himself and h is wife well into their elderly years. Married to the same woman for 70+ years. 90 years of doing it the right way. Time to go home and rest old man; I will see you on the other side som eday. You bring the bait, I’ll bring the beer. No regrets…. " Good work there Derren, thank you for sharing.
