THE SMITHS by Susan Smith

Fred Smith was born in 1879 on a farm near Mount Pleasant, Ontario to Harriet and James Smith.

He married Susan Nierenhausen in Fargo North Dakota, in 1905. She was one of 11 children born to Margaret & Peter Nierenhausen in Richmond, Minnesota.

Fred worked for the Great Northern Railroad as an engineer.

Homesteaded in Whitla Alberta in 1908/09

Children
Ralph Smith 1906 (Fargo N.D.) married Agnes Carlson in 1930 and moved to Medicine Hat. 2 sons.

Stanley Smith 1908 (Fargo N.D.) married Fern Gage in 1928 and moved to Vancouver. 4 children

Cecil Smith 1915 (Whitla, Alberta) married Alma Hoffman in 1953 from Medicine Hat. 2 daughters.

Verner Smith 1919 (Whitla, Alberta) married Helen Burke in 1947 and moved to Brooks, Alberta.

Fred died in 1922, in the fall.
