In May 1880 Ragnild and some of her siblings along with their parents emigrated from Selbu and settled in Dane Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota near Fergus Falls. This family would be enumerated in the 1880 US Census on June 14 or 15. They are shown in this census as Ole P. Grøttø and family. They had been in the U.S. a month or less. In Minnesota, on 9 June 1883, Ragnhild would marry Nils Sorensen Ostby who lived with his parents nearby.
