Mrs. Louisa Miles passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hannah Pageler, at Gregory, S.D., Thursday, where she was taken seven weeks ago so that her daughter might care for her. Mrs. Miles had been in poor health for several years at her home in Winnetoon and the past five months had been confined to her bed most of the time.
Miss Louisa Muir was born in Gloucester, England, Nov. 5, 1853. In 1871 she came to Jackson, Michigan. She was united in marriage to John A. Miles at Pentwater, Oceana, Mich., Dec. 23, 1873. To this union were born eleven children. Her husband, also one daughter, Alice and three sons, Arthur, Jobe and Charles preceded her in death.
In 1882 they moved to Knox county. Except for one year they lived here, until they moved to Sioux City in 1906. After the death of Mr. Miles in 1922, she came to Winnetoon where she lived the remainder of her life except for seven weeks which she spent with her daughter, Mrs. Hannah Pageler at Gregory, S.D. Here she passed away May 18 at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 13 days.
She leaves to mourn, seven children, Albert of Winnetoon, William of Burke, S.D., Frank of Rhinelander, Wis., Fred of Holyoke, Colo., Mrs. Anna Bouman of Richey, Mont., Elmer of Creighton, Nebr. and Mrs. Hannah Pageler of Gregory, S.D., thirty grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of friends.
In 1890 she united with the Friends church, Kemma, Nebr., where she remained a member until she moved to Winnetoon where she united with the M.E. church.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 from the home of Albert Miles and at 2:00 from the town hall in Winnetoon, conducted by Rev. D.E. Ramseyer, pastor of the Federated church at Creighton. Many friends and relatives were present to pay a fitting tribute to a pioneer woman who was held in the highest regard. All of her surviving children were present with the exception of one daughter, Mrs. Anna Bouman.
Interment was made in the Winnetoon cemetery. ...The Creighton News
